Ammonite fossil from North Africa — COMTE EDITION

On the way to Ouarzazate, Morocco are several mountain crossings and I saw these amazing Ammonite fossils that reminded me a lot of Akira Kurosawa book shelf in Tokyo. Since my encounter with Kurosawa, I was always looking for Ammonites and here I found a set of four that I put on my library in Marrakech. Dimension: 34 x 27 x 10 cm

This vase I purchased in Marrakech from one of my dealer. It has a lot of similarities to many other pieces I collected is it found a good spot in my library to continue the collection. The vase probably originates from the area of Rif valley, Morocco.

It’s a collection of small water container, probably originating from a region of Rif valley. I found this in an old town of Fes, Morocco. Fes is called a “blue city” and for me, it was the most beautiful city in all of Morocco. It is rare to find such a large number of this beautiful water bottles and I could not resist to collect them.

This is an old ceramic container I purchased in Ouarzazate from my favorite store. I always bought my pieces for their simplicity and beauty. Often, I try to find out the history of an object and its exact origin. The Moroccan Atlas mountains are endless and beauty is to be found everywhere. Dimension: 43 x 40 x 38 cm

This is a Moroccan knife from high atlas region. I was attracted by the simplicity and the heavy wear of the knife. I remember I purchased it on the side of a road, on the way to the Essaouira from an old man who was cutting his bread with it. He was kind enough to trade it for one of my carpets on which we sat down and shared bread and local honey together. Dimension: 2 x 40 x 9 cm wood, metal, brass

This is a very old Berbers headpiece from Morocco. I found in the high Atlas region during one of my trips along with an old saddles and boots that were silver lined. I wish this would end up in a museum as I’ve never come across anything similar in all the years I spent in that region. I bought from a dealer, an old man, who was very well known. His clients included Mick Jagger, Christopher Gibbs, Franca Sozzani and many others. His tent set at the beginning of the Vally of Ourika…
