Their 21-month crime spree spanned Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Missouri, where they killed at least 13 people and escaped from the police before they were killed at a roadblock near Gibsland, Louisiana, on May 23, 1934. The railroad reached Las Vegas on 4 July that year, and Billy and Charlie were deputized to help quell the rowdy crowds there. Holliday was operating a saloon there.
