Shoes: probably worn by Lady Mary Stanhope (1660)

Women's Velvet Shoes Made of blue velvet and embroidered with silver gilt thread, these shoes must have been worn for a special occasion. The latchets would have tied across the tongue with a decorative ribbon possibly gold in colour. Story: Could these shoes have been worn during the celebrations, which took place after the Restoration of Charles II in 1660? Lady Mary was the wife of Sir John Stanhope of Elvaston Castle in Derbyshire. After Sir John's death in 1638 she married Sir John…

Talking Shoes

On my way through the various sites on the web dealing with 1770's fashions I came across — and was completely sidetracked by— shoes. And yes, I'll 'fess up — I fell in love with some of them. Take, for instance, these stunning shoes on the left, made of yellow silk with elegant curved heels. Don't forget, these shoes are nearly 250 years old.

Museum Deaccessioned 1850's Embroidered Silk Slippers For Large Doll or Child

One of the most notable antique textiles I've ever had the pleasure of handling, this spectacular pair of early 1850's silk child's slippers are truly a memorable find for the collector of early doll goodies. If you are interested in creating an entire world out of your collecting finds, by re-inventing the world of a young child in England, New York, or Paris, in the 1850's, complete with her dolls, dresses, hats, accessories and other precious items, this pair of beautiful shoes should be…

Antique Silk Wedding Slippers Circa Early 1900's Shoes are in display condition only and are not intended to be worn. They are quite fragile. The inside is cracking and peeling. Silk is shredding at the tips of the toes but is in good condition elsewhere. The soles are in very good condition and have the number "3" on the bottom. (see pic 4). I have added to pairs of earrings to resemble shoe clips which add to the 'decorative' appeal. I have also added the vintage, lace ribbon to…

Step Back In Time With These Dazzling Historical Shoes

Shoes don’t seem like they’d be so important to fashion. After all, they’re way down there on your feet, right on the ground. But it seems that, while they may be at the bottom of the outfit, they rank pretty high in fashion — and it seems people have always thought so, all over the world,...
