Hackney horse. Less than 2000 left in the world today!
The Hackney breed is uncommon worldwide, with a global population of perhaps 3,000. The majority of the horses are found in Britain, with fewer than 200 Hackney horses in North America and about 300 in Argentina. The breed type varies from place to place and strain to strain. Relatively few strains retain the pure genetics of the historic Hackney breed, and these are a conservation priority. Most Beautiful Animals, All The Pretty Horses, Most Beautiful Horses, Pony

RD Kohav, Hackney stallion. Hackney is known to be a high-stepping, flashy carriage horse but the original Hackneys were riding horses with ordinary gaits when there were no decent roads yet in Britain. Today they're rare as carriage horses are not needed for transportation any more but they still are outstanding horses with iron-hard legs for both driving and riding. Hackney Pony was created by Christopher Wilson from Westmoreland. He crossed native ponies (mostly Fells) with small Hackneys to create a tough, pony-sized and highstepping driving horse. The first ponies were kept free on the rugged moors so they were very hardy, not just pretty. Even nowadays show Hackney Ponies must not be too slender. They're shown on harness and in hand.
