The five Roman emperors, Nerva (96–98 CE), Trajan (98–117), Hadrian (117–138), Antoninus Pius (138–161), and Marcus Aurelius (161–180), who ruled over the most majestic days of the empire. A Roman marble portrait of the emperor Antoninus Pius (r. 138-161 CE), acquired by the British Museum in 1850 from Richard Cockle Lucas. Even before that, the portrait was in the collections of the Grimani palace, Venice.
