Cinnamon fern (Osmunda cinnamomea) is a Missouri native and is a rmended fern variety by professional landscapers. While non-flowering, they are grown for their green deciduous fronds that provide dramatic effect. The familiar "fiddleheads" emerge from the base of the plant and unfurl into large, erect, yellowish-green, sterile fronds that remain attractive throughout summer. The common name of this plant is in reference to the cinnamon colored fibers found near the frond base. Fun fact: Osmunda
Noted for its unique form and texture, Osmunda regalis (Royal Fern or Flowering Fern) is a tall, robust, deciduous fern forming a large rosette of elegant, broadly divided, bright green fronds. Emerging pinkish in spring, they are crowned with rusty-brown fertile flower spikes at their tips, thus giving rise to the common name of 'Flowering Fern'. The lovely foliage turns attractive shades of red-brown in fall, adding visual interest in the garden. Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden
