The 1950s were a stressful time in that McCarthyism was affecting the lives of many. Some feared the implications of communism and the loyalty of those around them. Some even feared that the Communist party was taking control over the air waves, taking advantage of the television's powers for persuasion. Advertising agencies and TV production companies reacted by appointing anti-communist leaders.
