The Leerdam glass factory, founded in 1765, later characterized by the patronage of Dutch Hendrik Petrus Berlage, Basler Karel Petrus Cornelis and American Frank Lloyd Wright. The designer Floris Meydam (1919-2011) from Leerdam began in 1935 in the glass manufacturer as an employee in the Design Department. In 1949 he became their director.
