It is with deep grief that we mourn the passing of one of the greatest French artists, Pierre Soulages at the age of 102. He is often referred to as the "master of dark and light », as for him there was just one color, black, and he spent a lifetime exploring the light within it. "I love the authority of black, its seriousness, its inescapability, its radical nature," Soulages said of his favourite colour. "Black offers amazing possibilities. It is an extraordinarily active colour." « Soulages

Pierre Soulages chose to free himself from all academic and cultural constraints as well as from all traditional aesthetic values and opted for radical and instinctive ways of expression. Known as the “painter of black and light”, he creates vibrating, glistening, and everchanging paintings that redefine the spatial and temporal dimensions of the painting. __ Artwork: Peinture 60 x 81 cm, 26 août 2013, oil on canvas _____ #PierreSoulages #IconicArt #VibratingPaintings #ExpressiveArts

Printing - Pierre Soulages - Interview Magazine- SOULAGES: No, black ink was always my favorite. I loved it. And then one day I realized that the only thing I ever wanted to do was to paint. I realized that most people waste their lives earning a living, and I wanted to live. I love painting, so I keep painting. That's how I became an artist.
