Treaty of Versailles
To begin at the beginning, one must begin at the beginning. The armistice began at 11:00 on November 11, 1918. But the punishment for the war began June 29, 1919 with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles. To some, the punishment was far too extreme. Concession of land, military disarmament, and unbelievable $442 billion (US, half 1 trillion) in reparation fees to France, Italy, and Belgium, and the acceptance of the "War Guilt Clause" which laid sole responsibility of the war on Germany.
