A piece of tartan cloth found on the ship Osebergskom. The Huldremose woman who lived in "the Iron Age" wore a plaid gown. Wikipedia says the find is around 340 AD at the latest. (And now no one can argue against Vikings wearing plaids.

Viking dress based off the Birka grave 735. This is the only one I've found so far that has done all the bands, most people do just a few bands across the top. I was so happy to find an actual reproduction of this interpretation! Embroidered silk collar. Valsgärde, 10th cent. - red silk tabby embroidered with silver thread. Displayed at the Museum of Norse Antiquities, Uppsala, Sweden.

Technical: Collar 51 x 6 cm, 'Samitium' (weft-faced compund twill) silk U/ U (ie. unspun), 44 x ? Embroidery thread silver foil S-spun around silk core.
