Confederate weapons, unlike Union weapons, included swords. The Colt 1851 Navy revolver and Fayettville rifle were common weapons. The Confederates did not have as many weapons as the industrial North did during the war.

Halbert Eleazer Paine (1815-82) Ohio Brigadier General (USA). West Point Class of 1839. Served in the Seminole War, then resigned his commission to practice law. Appointed a BG of volunteers in 1861, he developed a reputation for harshness and cruelty to the civilian population . Reprimanded by Congress for these actions, he left the army at the end of the war.
