M Company of 42 Commando Royal Marines are pictured in this atmospheric image by LA(Phot) Gaz Faulkner, conducting clearing and fighting patrols in the Kajaki Area of the Helmand Province in Southern Afghanistan. they were there to attack and flush out a suspected Taliban training camp in the region during Operation Clay.
Soldiers from 1 PWRR (Princess of Wales Royal Regiment) are battered by the downdraft of a MEDEVAC helicopter as it comes in to pick up Private Stephen Bainbridge, aged 25 of the Black Watch (3 SCOTS) who was severely wounded in an IED explosion in a nearby compound at Loya Manda, Helmand Province, Afghanistan on the 11th of November 2011. He lost his right leg during the blast and his left was later amputated by surgeons.

This photo was taken during a firefight in Marjah Afghanistan after a patrol came under fire from enemy insurgents. Six of the 10 service members on the patrol were wounded, yet Cole continued to provide suppressing fire toward enemy positions to ensure the safety of his fellow Marines.
