Persimmon Blossom Phoenix Oolong by @redblossomteacompany So I had no idea that a persimmon was a fruit, let alone what the blossom was like. That said, this is a tasty oolong. Reading up a bit more, it could also be called a Ya Shi or Duck S... dan cong oolong. There is a wonderful fruity/floral note from the leaves. It brews into a rich oolong with well rounded texture. I picked this up when I was in San Franciso earlier in the year, back when travel was still a thing. The staff at the… Phoenix, Brewing, Dan, Tasty, Leaves, Note, Texture, Fruit, Floral

Savannah Gold by @paperandtea A Kenyan black tea made in the style of a Yunnan golden bud tea. There is a eucalyptus tone that comes through to add some zing, and moves this away from the malty flavours of Yunnan black. Very interesting to experience the different terrior with similar processing to teas I usually drink. For comparison, the third photo is a Yunnan Gold from a local Zürich store, Schwarzenbach Kolonialwaren. The leaves are smaller and more uniform, and the flavour has… Mount Kenya, Savannah Chat, Bud, Teas, Third, How To Make, Drink, Store, Tees

2018 Red Water Tie Guan Yin by @hellosongtea Tie Guan Yin was one of the first teas I drank as loose leaf, many years ago. This is an entirely different experience. High elevation, traditionally processed, and made in Taiwan from an Anxi cultivar from the 19th century. The result is rich in mouthfeel, lingers in the mouth with complexity and sweetness, and has a great strength and longevity. A wonderful tea! Ruby18 from @deerlandtea This is a wonderful black tea. The Ruby 18 variety has become quite popular in recent years. This sample provided from Deerland Tea is a great example of what is possible. The dry leaves start out with a promising fragrant smell, while the wet leaves suggest the complexity to come. The first brew unlocks the aromatics, while also bringing a background warmth of maltiness, and a little bit of minerality. The texture is softer and rounder than many black teas… Dry Leaf, Teas, Brewing, Popular, Texture, Black, Food, Surface Finish, Black People

2019 Oriental Beauty from @cuppachahq Another wonderful floral oolong from Tania. Where most floral tea notes are like smelling a single flower from a distance, this is more like sticking your nose deep into a bouquet. Well rounded, rich texture, and a pleasure to drink. 2019 Spring Lao Man'E Gushu (Bitter) by @crimsonlotustea This is the bitter version of the tasting set that I've reviewed previously. Then I had only tried the sweet version, and was very excited. The bitterness introduced a very different tea session. The first few steeps are very bitter, but not quite undrinkable bitter. These were sips where I needed to drink relatively quickly and focus on the aftertaste, which hinted at complexity and good things to come. Around steeps four to five… Bitterness, Very Excited, How To Dry Basil, Things To Come, Herbs, Tea, Drink, Ethnic Recipes, Sweet

2019 Gao Jia Shan "Golden Prosperity Pig Cometh" Fu Zhuan Tea from @yunnan_sourcing. A very pleasant to drink Brick Tea (茯磚茶) from the Gao Jia Mountainous area of Anhua County in Hunan. Made from 2018 leaves, then wet piled and pressed into bricks, and carefully nurtured to cultivate the golden flowers characteristic of this type of tea. The tea itself is such a soft texture, with muted forest floor tastes. It is a relaxing tea to drink through many, many steeps. 2019 Psychotropical raw puerh by Kuura Tasty, juicy, well priced. A great entry or everyday drink. I first tried this last August in Melbourne, and was surprised by how good it was for the price. I bought a sample, and promptly lost it my tea cupboard. Now I'm drinking down my teas in anticipation of spring and it resurfaced. It is still a very good tea for the price. It has a lovely juicy taste that coats the tounge and towards the back of the throat. What is missing, quite reasonably… What Is Miss, Best Tea, My Tea, Teas, Cupboard, Melbourne, Drinking, Lost, Wellness

2019 Spring Lao Man'E Gushu by @crimsonlotustea Wow, this is a great tea! Apparently, Lao Man'E has two types of tea, one bitter and one sweeter. Crimson Lotus provided a sample pack with one session from each. I intended to do back to back sessions and compare, but you'll have to wait for that later. After getting through a session of the sweet one, I'm too excited and need to share. The leaves are amazing. The sample came uncompressed, however there is still so little indication that… Types Of Tea, Bitter, Lotus, Banana, Leaves, Fruit, Spring, Amazing, Sweet

2019 Four Seasons Red by @hellosongtea I discovered Four Seasons red recently, from a Global Tea Hut issue. This is a wonderful red tea from Taiwan. The cultivar is called Four Seasons and is usually processed as an oolong. On a trip to the Bay Area two weeks ago, I had the chance to visit the Song Tea store and taste some tea. I'm always a fan of visiting stores while traveling and learn something new every time. They've been around as a store for seven years. The store itself exudes… Something New, Four Seasons, Bay Area, Taiwan, Traveling, Calm, Tea, Chocolate, Store

Eight Immortals by @wuyiorigin Another great Wuyi mountain oolong. There don't seem to be many misses in the @wuyiorigin collection. This is a teacup I found at Länggass tea in Bern and simply couldn't resist. There is something added when drinking from beautiful teaware. Wild Tree Puerh 1985 from @mvteavillage I didn't know much about this tea, and had left it at the back of the cupboard. Opening it, the smell is of bone dry dirt found after cleaning out a long unused shed. I had low expectations. Rinsing was key. Longer than usual, I have the leaves a chance to wake up. Then it turned out to be a very pleasant tea. Great texture and energy. The earthy flavour settles but never quite leaves. It reminded me of one of the first aged puerhs I had tried… Earthy, Cupboard, Leaves, Cleaning, Key, Texture, Tableware, Desserts, Food

Rareness4 2019 by @pu_erh.sk This is a challenging tea to review, as I started with high expectations. The tea is delivering, but somehow not being as big a revelation as I had hoped. I may need a few sessions in different circumstances to get to know this tea better. The dry leaves start out with a beautiful rich puerh fragrance, hinting at the tea to come. The wet leaves let out more of the aroma, and have a little smokiness that comes from some puerh, although quite muted in this one… High Expectations, Dry Leaf, Fragrance, Leaves, Tea, Beautiful, Teas, Perfume, Tees
