Tell your students nobody leaves until they are all back. Take a cardboard box, cut little X's for the pencils to punch through. Or you can take a 2x4 or a piece of thicker wood and drill holes 3/4 of the way through the wood with a drill bit that is slightly larger than the writing utensils. Classroom Hack--Use tiny ziplock bags for task cards, math center materials, and other classroom games. You can get the baggies at most craft shops and they are super cheap. Much better than big baggies filled with tiny cards.
